Brian Mullins

Brian has been the CEO of Mind Foundry since 2019, leading a team of some of the UK’s top scientists and engineers to solve the world’s most important problems.
Brian has been at the forefront of technology throughout his career and is passionate about the potential it has to positively change the lives of people around the world. He has been awarded over 100 US patents, has been asked to testify as an expert before the US Senate, received an Edison award for Industrial Design and was named one of Goldman Sachs's “100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs”.
Stephen Roberts
Co-founder and CSO
Professor leading the Machine Learning Research Group at Oxford University.
Professor Stephen Roberts is a co-founder of Mind Foundry and is the Royal Academy of Engineering / Man Group Professor of Machine Learning at the University of Oxford. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Royal Statistical Society, the IET, ELLIS.eu and the Alan Turing Institute. He also serves as a Chief Science Officer at Mind Foundry, lending his extensive knowledge and expertise to the company's mission to create responsible AI for high-stakes applications.
Stephen’s focus lies in the theory and methodology of machine learning for large-scale real-world problems, especially those in which noise and uncertainty abound.
He has successfully applied these approaches to a wide range of problem domains, including astronomy, biology, healthcare, finance, engineering, control and sensor networks. His applied machine learning work has had a particularly broad impact, from exoplanet & pulsar discovery to mosquito detection using smartphones, from fault detection in large-scale sensor networks to human-agent coordination. His methodological work has pioneered scalable probabilistic inference across a multitude of model classes, including decision aggregation methods and Bayesian Deep Learning.
Michael Osborne
Co-founder and CSO
Professor of Machine Learning at the University of Oxford, and Official Fellow of Exeter College.
Professor Michael Osborne is a co-founder of Mind Foundry, a Professor of Machine Learning, an Official Fellow of Exeter College, Co-Director of the Oxford Martin AI Governance Initiative and a Faculty Member of the Oxford-Man Institute for Quantitative Finance, all at the University of Oxford. He also serves as a Chief Science Officer at Mind Foundry, lending his extensive knowledge and expertise to the company's mission to create responsible AI for high-stakes applications.
Michael is an expert in the development of intelligent algorithms capable of making sense of complex big data. His work in Machine Learning and non-parametric data analytics has been successfully applied in diverse and challenging contexts. For example, in astrostatistics, Michael’s probabilistic algorithms have aided the detection of planets in distant solar systems, and in autonomous robotics, his work has enabled self-driving cars to determine when their maps may have changed due to roadworks.
Michael also has deep interests in the broader societal consequences of machine learning and robotics. His work on the significance of machine learning and robotics to future labour markets has impacted government policy and has been featured in several major media outlets.
Matt Arnold
Chief Finance Officer
Transforming cutting-edge research into the fuel that drives scalable businesses.
Matt is a highly experienced financial leader with a passion for software engineering and technology, holding an MSc in Information Engineering from the University of Cambridge. He was previously Managing Director at Goldman Sachs in Strategic Investing and Fixed Income, where he built novel pricing models, analytics, and workflow tools.
Before joining Mind Foundry, Matt was a founding investor at Oxford Science Enterprises, where he helped University of Oxford spinouts such as PQShield, Bibliu, Diffblue, OxfordVR, Ultromics, HEXR, 6D.ai, Latent Logic, and Navenio turn their research into scalable businesses.
As Mind Foundry’s CFO and COO, Matt leads all aspects of the company’s operations with a focus on delivering our commercial goals in support of our mission.
Anna Roe
Chief People Officer
Building companies where people are empowered to be their best selves.
Anna has been working within the People realm for over a decade, having focused her career on high-growth startups. She joined Wise when it was an early-stage company and helped it scale from 100 to 1000 employees. Anna then went on to join Houst and TransferGo, running their people functions through their global growth. She thrives off helping organisations attract, develop and retain the best talent whilst building a culture and experience that scales with the company.
As our Chief People Officer, her role is to focus on key areas of the business, our people and our culture. This includes ensuring the company’s values are intrinsic in everything we do and that we nurture an environment of empowerment, education, curiosity, innovation, and scientific rigour.
Davide Zilli
Chief Technology Officer
Passionate about applying Machine Learning to the conservation of the natural world.
Davide is Mind Foundry’s Chief Technology Officer. He develops AI and software to deliver solutions that drive tangible value to businesses in multiple sectors. He worked on pollution sensing while he was a visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has published research on bioacoustics and machine learning for citizen science. Upon completion of his doctorate, he joined the Machine Learning Research Group at the University of Oxford, working on the acoustic detection of malarial mosquitoes. When Mind Foundry was spun out of the University, he joined in the position of Machine Learning Research Scientist, focusing primarily on time series analysis. He now works with clients to drive the highest business impact from the Machine Learning adoption journey.
Al Bowman
General Manager, Defence & National Security

Al is Mind Foundry’s General Manager, Defence & National Security. He works alongside our partners to deliver cutting-edge AI solutions. Al has over 25 years of experience in both AI and military operations following his many years of service in the Armed Forces, before more recently working in organisations such as Dataminr and Deloitte. With this wealth of technological and industry expertise, Al drives the delivery of our innovative AI solutions, helping enterprise organisations detect and manage risk. He uses this experience to lead Mind Foundry’s commercial team to work alongside our partners to apply cutting-edge AI solutions to the most complex and challenging problem spaces in Government and Defence.
Lindsay Chadwick
Chief Operating Officer
Passionate about high-growth early stage companies, complex regulatory frameworks, and governance that propels scale.
Lindsay is an experienced corporate and commercial lawyer, with a passion for fast growth venture backed businesses.
Before joining Mind Foundry, Lindsay worked with the venture capital team at Penningtons Manches Cooper helping university spinouts and VC backed companies with funding rounds, acquisitions and exits. She also worked with the founding team of the Advanced Research and Invention Agency, a new government department with a mandate to deploy £800m on high risk projects with the potential to drive transformative technological change.
Prior to that, Lindsay worked with The Sunday Times Fast Track, tracking and analysing fast growth private businesses in the UK from the fastest growing to the biggest, with a specific focus on the tech sector.
Lindsay studied Modern History at Oxford University, winning a scholarship to Princeton University to study international law and relations. She undertook her law conversion at Oxford Brookes and is a qualified executive coach.
Nick Sherman
VP of Marketing & Design
Using the power of design and good storytelling to push technology further.
Nick is Mind Foundry’s VP of Marketing & Design. He uses his experience as a storyteller to bring teams together, increase creativity, and explore solutions to the most important problems. Nick excels in assembling and orchestrating teams to create high-value multimedia content, incorporating the latest trends in filmmaking, animation, graphic design, and code. He takes a human-centred approach to design and has worked extensively on User Experience in the fields of artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and autonomous driving. An award-winning documentary filmmaker and screenwriter, his work combines his passion for philosophy and design to help people better understand the human experience.
James Keogh
VP of Engineering
Dedicated to making technology accessible to all, even in the most challenging environments.
James is Mind Foundry’s VP of Engineering where he leads the technical development and implementation of Mind Foundry’s solutions. From the early days of release engineering to the cutting edge of using modern DevOps tools and techniques in the cloud, James has specialised in designing and implementing software systems that accelerate developer workflows and help release the value of code at high velocity.
James has built and led teams that tackle hard problems for a diverse array of applications and user experiences, from distributed scientific software platforms to smart heating systems, large-scale telecommunications networks and connected therapeutic devices for brain injury patients.
In his previous role leading the cloud engineering effort at Cambridge Consultants, James developed a particular interest in the challenges, such as model traceability, validation and governance, that are unique to engineering software with a significant machine learning component.
Julie Harris

Building products that empower the people who do society's most important work.
Julie is Mind Foundry’s Director of Product, where she leads our technology teams through customer discovery and product delivery to create solutions for customers' most critical problems.
Julie takes a customer centred approach to developing technology, specialising in working with users to shape solutions that meet the complex and demanding workflows of high stakes environments. Julie has spent her career building products that detect and manage risk in product teams across Government, Defence and National Security, and Finance, including Google, and across various UK Government departments.
Alistair Garfoot
Director of Intelligence Architecture
Accelerating the operational impact of AI by designing for deployment.
Alistair Garfoot is Director of Intelligence Architecture at Mind Foundry where he leads the scoping for new AI use cases. He joined Mind Foundry as a Research Scientist in 2018 after studying Machine Learning techniques for portfolio optimisation with our Founder, Stephen Roberts at Oxford.
Alistair has led project strategy to deliver capabilities such as novel user experiences for explainability, edge deployments on satellite, and integration of AI for sonar signal processing. His knowledge across technical, product and commercial disciplines allows him to identify solutions which accelerate the operational impact of AI and minimise the risk of failing to cross the gap between innovation and deployment.
Tom Bartley
Director of Infrastructure

Tom is Mind Foundry’s Director of Civil Infrastructure, where he works in close collaboration with clients, partners and technologists to drive innovation in the built environment.
As a civil engineering graduate with a strong track record in delivering valuable software, Tom’s experience spans major projects and asset management. He has been at the forefront of digital transformation for over a decade including achieving an Engineering Doctorate in BIM for project delivery, as well as involvement with several industry steering groups.
Before Mind Foundry, Tom spent time at Jacobs and WSP, accelerating and ensuring a complex programme delivery throughout the UK and Europe. Tom is excited about how artificial intelligence will help address the most important problems in civil infrastructure management, delivery and assurance.
